Its grandeur lies within its size, and the way it looms between my eyes; and the way it leads me from meal to meal. Some wonder of the bulbous thing is mine. And is it really real? From my childhood days I wore it, like a crown-my mom adored it. My father who had a big one too, said son, it's something to get used to: and if children taunt you, don't forget, there are bigger things you will regret. and your nose will grow much bigger yet. summary In the poem, the nose, he wrote about the increase of nose size on lying and then mention about the meal to meal work that requires nose. He also mentioned the requirement of the nose for a sneeze, smell and how it keeps growing up with time. Even after dying we require nose to smell the flower on top of our casket. Questions and answers 1. The speaker feels embarrassed about his nose, but seems to have accepted it as something he has to live with since he cannot change it. 2. The speaker’s father told him that it was something he would get used to and that, if taunted by children he should remember that there will not only be bigger things he will regret but also that his nose would grow still bigger. 3. The speaker mentions elephants and rhinoceroses because they also have big noses. 4. The speaker overstates by saying that he sneezes the leaves off the trees, that ladies faint at the sight of it and that elephants and rhinoceroses have smaller noses. It helps him turn pages in a book and he asks that it be left outside his coffin so that he can smell the flowers when he dies. 5. The poet seems to be trying to say that each of us has some aspect of our appearance that we are not very happy about. We should accept this gracefully and not mind people commenting on it.
