Host Information: Joe Rockey www.EliteBusinessConversations.com Hey Steelers Nation, Joe Rocky here from the Pittsburgh Syndicate! In this episode, I'm diving into the three biggest offseason lies told by the Pittsburgh Steelers and why it's crucial to address them. These statements have been parroted by reporters, and I believe it's essential to set the record straight based on facts provided by the Steelers themselves. Lie #1: The Steelers did not hold Kenny Pickett back last year. While Kenny had an impressive number of passes, the team's overall pass percentage was only 54%, compared to the league average of 60%. This means the Steelers limited Kenny's throwing opportunities by 6-7% below the league average, hindering his progress. Moreover, the passes were often shorter and lacked the downfield explosive plays, which adversely affected the entire offense. Lie #2: The Steelers having the second-most drives of 10 plays or more is a good thing. Contrary to what Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada claims, this is not necessarily positive. The reason for having so many long drives was not a strategic choice like Kansas City's clock management but rather an inability to generate explosive plays. Our offense must focus on improving explosiveness and stretching the field for a more successful season. Lie #3: Retaining Matt Canada as the offensive coordinator is a good decision. While some argue that continuity helps develop a young quarterback, Canada's track record in developing pro-quality players is non-existent. Keeping him might be a financial decision, but the bigger issue is that the Steelers' offensive coordinator position has become a dead-end job, and no one has found success in the NFL after serving in that role under Tomlin. The team's defense looks promising and could be a top-five unit in the NFL, but the offense needs improvement. Kenny Pickett's abilities can be better utilized with a more dynamic and downfield-oriented passing game. The receivers must be further downfield, and we need to move away from short and conservative passes. As a fan, I'm excited for the upcoming season and believe the Steelers can make a great run, especially with a strong defense. Let's stay hopeful and support the team as we head into training camp and beyond. Remember, our defense can be a game-changer, and we have the potential to make a significant impact this year.
