Automatic Arabic Daisy Book

A very small percentage of books are available in accessible format for people with print disabilities (e.g., people with visual impairment and people with learning disabilities). Digital talking books (DTB) are electronic documents encoded in DAISY format. It consists of a collection of text (usually in html) and audio . Automatic generation of DAISY books is still not explored for Arabic language. This project presents a framework for automatic building of DAISY digital talking books for the Arabic language. The proposed framework include: image-to-text converter, context-injector, text-to-audio-generator, and DAISY generator. The input of the framework is a PDF book or a book in image format. The framework then transforms the book into DAISY format. This research project is funded by the Jordanian Scientific Research Support Fund Number EIT/1/05/2011.
